Demons Move Past Warriors

December 13, 2007
PARK RIDGE, IL - The Blue Demons of Maine East got past the Warriors of Deerfield after figuring out how to get the ball to their main guy, Avery Roche. It took the Demons awhile to get in the game, as they were down at the half. East's Roche got in some foul trouble and had to sit for some time. When they were able to get him back in the game, they started to fed him the ball and he was unstoppable. In a game that saw the home town team getting the majority of the fouls, Deerfield enjoyed their good fortune throughout the first half. The Warriors settled into their offense with a pair of sophomores, Oren Schwartz and David Panther. Each had a good game and did many things right. In the end the Demons were able to get past Deerfield's zone defense and starting to pull away with minutes to go.
Maine East
Avery Roche - F - 6-4 - 215: Roche a senior had many good skills, his jumping ability was excellent as he was able to get over every defender to get a rebound or layup. Was the horse of this team tonight and most every night it seems. Played a lot of minutes until he got into foul trouble. Has a descent shot from 10' away but plays much better under the basket. The best player for Maine East, should get better this year, maybe a Div-III player.
Deerfield
Oren Schwartz - F - 6-1 - 170: Only a sophomore, he works VERY hard on both offense and defense. Has nice size for his age and should grow over the next few years. Liked how he defended as he never gave up position and was always on the ball. Ok shot, seemed like it wasn't his night. Will continue to watch this year.
David Panther - G - 6-2 - 160: Also only a sophomore, he was a silent worker in this game. He was good all-around. He had some points but wasn't flashy, just did his job at both ends. Handled the ball well and should be better as the season continues.
Tom McGee - F - 6-5 - 175: A very hard worker who fouled out in this game. Always in the play and going for the ball. A junior who should be a leader going into next season.
Jason Domash - G - 5-9 - 140: A junior on the smallish side, but turned out to be pretty good. He started out rocky when he got in the game and we thought he would be bad, but he settled down and got into his game and proved to be able to run the offense. handled the ball well, needs to be a bit stronger with passes and such.
Alex Parmacek - G - 6-1 - 180: Expected more from this Senior who has good size and speed. Just wasn't his nights after he put up enough bricks to build a foundation. On the flip side he worked very hard throughout the game and played good defense. Needs to settle down a bit and play his game.
Jon Cohen - C - 6-5 - 190: this was defiantly not his night as he was absolutely horrible, it was painful to watch as he lumbered up and down the court and missed open baskets that my grandma could make. Luckily for him his coach took him out and he was never seen again. Will watch at least one more time and see if he gets better.
