Glenbrook North 63, Deerfield 38

Spartans Whip Warriors
Hoopsters Basketball Scout
December 21, 2007

DEERFIELD, IL - On a foggy night, in a half capacity gym, one team came to play and one did not. The Spartans of Glenbrook North came out and straight up spanked their Central Suburban League foe. Deerfield just could not get anything started the entire game. The problem for the Warriors wasn't helped by the fact that Glenbrook North has a very talented sophomore in Alex Dragicevich, whose entourage is very good as well. The first half was all Spartans, ok, the entire game was all Spartans, halftime score was 31-15 GBN. The surprising thing was Deerfield didn't do much to change things up and see if something different would work. Note to Coach Kapsimalis, "If you are getting beat as badly as you were, making some change can't hurt, you really have nothing to loss." No changes came until the last minutes of the game, where we did see some good play from the bench reserves. GBN continued to hit threes and go hard to the basket throughout the second half, finishing with a convincing 25 point victory. Side note: Deerfield's Oren Schwartz was out with a leg injury. We would have liked to see him play again as he has potential and plays with intensity.

Glenbrook North
Alex Dragicevich - G - 6-4: Just a sophomore, he played very well the entire game. The best player on the court tonight. Has an all-around game. Is able to run the offense when needed, has a good shot with three point range, which he showed tonight, draining two in a row. has good move under the basket and can drive the lane effectively. A bit lanky physically, but should be able to put some muscle on his frame over the next couple of years. Can handle the ball well and moves well up and down the court. Lots of upside here. Had 17pts in the win.

Brian Peel - F - 6-3: Solid player at both ends, good defender with a good shot. A senior who is smothering on defense and moves very well on the court. A leader for his team as well. Played a lot of minutes producing 11pts.

Eric Brunner - F - 6-2: A senior with a good shot, can shot the three well. Plays good defense, always stays with his man.

Tyler Ponticelli - F/C - 6-7: Good big man, but needs to move better on the court with and without the ball. A junior who has time to improve his post play and bulk up a bit, was very skinny, bigger players would throw him around. Had 10pts.

Deerfield
Kevin Cole - C - 6-5: Only got a few minutes of playing time, but made the most of it. Had a few chances to post up and made each basket with strong play and a nice fade away jumper. looked strong inside and did not get overwhelmed when double teamed, in fact he made the baskets when two men where guarding him.
